FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know before getting started

Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?

Yes. A lab-grown diamond has the exact same chemical composition, crystal structure, and optical properties as a mined diamond — it is carbon, arranged the same way. The only difference is origin: one forms in the earth over billions of years, the other is grown in a controlled lab environment over a few weeks. Gemologically, jewellers, and international grading labs all classify it as a genuine diamond, not an imitation.

Will a lab-grown diamond test as a real diamond?

Yes, on any standard diamond tester (thermal or electrical conductivity), a lab-grown diamond reads as a real diamond, because it is one. It is not the same as a simulant like cubic zirconia or moissanite, which test differently. Only specialised lab equipment (used by gemological institutes) can distinguish a lab-grown stone from a mined one — visually and to a jeweller's tester, they are identical.

How is a lab-grown diamond different from a mined diamond, then?

The only real difference is where and how it was created. There is no visible, structural, or durability difference — both score 10 on the Mohs hardness scale and have identical fire, brilliance, and sparkle. The main practical differences buyers care about are price (LGDs typically cost 30–50% less) and origin story (grown vs. mined).

Why are lab-grown diamonds sometimes called "synthetic diamonds"?

"Synthetic" is a scientific term meaning "made through a technical process" rather than occurring naturally — it does not mean fake or artificial in the everyday sense. Historically this label caused confusion, which is why the industry now prefers "lab-grown" or "lab-created" diamond, which more accurately reflects that the material itself is a genuine diamond.

What is the best certification for lab-grown diamonds?

The two most recognised international certifications are IGI (International Gemological Institute) and GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Both grade a diamond's cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight, and both clearly state on the certificate that the stone is lab-grown. Azuronn uses IGI certification for our lab-grown diamonds to ensure the highest standards of verifiable grading.

Does Azuronn's jewellery come with a certificate?

Yes. Every Azuronn lab-grown diamond centre stone above 0.50 carats comes with a unique, verifiable IGI or GIA grading certificate.

Will lab-grown diamonds lose their value?

Both lab-grown and mined diamonds are known to have limited resale value on the secondary market — this is true of nearly all fine jewellery, not unique to LGD. Diamonds, whether mined or lab-grown, are priced for retail purchase and are not typically bought back at anywhere near the original price. The value of a lab-grown diamond piece is best thought of as the beauty, craftsmanship, and meaning it holds for the wearer, not as a financial investment.

Can I insure my lab-grown diamond jewellery?

Yes. Lab-grown diamond jewellery can be insured the same way as mined-diamond jewellery, typically through a homeowner's/renter's policy rider or a specialist jewellery insurer. The certificate and purchase receipt/appraisal are what an insurer will require, so keep both safely.

Where are Azuronn's diamonds and jewellery made?

Our lab-grown diamonds are cultivated and cut in state-of-the-art facilities in India, where our jewellery is also meticulously hand-crafted by master artisans before being imported to serve our clients in Hong Kong.

Are lab-grown diamonds more ethical than mined diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds avoid the land disruption and the labour and conflict concerns historically associated with some diamond mining regions. They are generally considered a more transparent, traceable supply chain choice. At Azuronn, we partner exclusively with verified growers committed to ethical and sustainable practices.

Where can I buy Azuronn lab-grown diamond jewellery in Hong Kong?

You can purchase Azuronn pieces directly through our website with secure delivery across Hong Kong, or by booking an appointment at our central showroom for a private consultation.

How long does delivery take, and are there any customs/import charges?

For in-stock items, delivery within Hong Kong takes 2-3 business days. Made-to-order and bespoke pieces generally take 3-4 weeks. All import duties into Hong Kong are already covered in the purchase price, so there are no hidden fees.

What is your return, exchange, and resizing policy?

We offer a 30-day return or exchange window for all ready-to-wear pieces in original, unworn condition. We also provide one complimentary ring resizing within the first 60 days of purchase.

How do I care for my lab-grown diamond jewellery?

Clean with a soft brush and mild soapy water, avoid harsh chemicals (chlorine, perfume, cleaning agents) making direct contact with the piece, and store separately to avoid scratching other jewellery. Because lab-grown diamonds are equally hard (Mohs 10), they hold up to daily wear the same way mined diamonds do — routine care is identical.
